GORDON JAMES | FINE DIAMONDS
Gordon and Gretchen Raine decided to open a boutique retail store after years of being in the diamond business. They purchased a property on Main Street in Downtown Bellevue in early 2012. It opened in early 2013.
With concerns regarding the tight schedule and the Bellevue Land Use/Design Review Process, TWIST turned to Arne Hall (AJH, LLC.) to be the Permit Expediter, because of his long term relationship with the City. In reviewing the different options it was clear that only one would work, the LUX Process, which utilizes an internal design approval process.
The TWIST team developed several exterior concepts that started the dialogue for the design flavor, “Sun Valley”. Utilizing 3D modeling during the design phase led to quick decisions with TWISTARCHITECTURE
regards to program adjacencies and finishes as well as for the LUX process, which helped the City clearly understand the design and the exterior materials. The main building facade is travertine slabs, custom “knotty alder” storefront with large picture windows and a metal canopy that protects the pedestrian from our traditional NW weather. The interior finishes and furniture are understated yet elegant, focusing your attention to the beautiful wood display cases.
The design was approved in late May and the Building Permit in August, and construction was completed in early 2013.
